Today, Julie and I had an opportunity to visit an amazing organization* here in the city. This organization is located in the largest red-light district of this city. It has been in existence for over 10 years and has been changing the lives of hundreds of women here.
The women, whom are or formally, have been involved in prostitution and/or human trafficking, come to this safe haven six days a week, are trained in a job, and learn how to support themselves and their families. The organization mainly produces bags and t-shirts. We were able to tour the buildings where production takes places and I was so, so impressed. Everything worked very seamlessly. Some women were on sewing machines, others were doing screen printing, others painted fabrics using a stencil. The women working had smiles on their faces and were eager to joke with me about my height and the extraordinary amount of sweat dripping off my body.
The products these women produce are top-notch and shipped in bulk all around the world. Today, some of them were making and packaging bags with "Acquire the Fire" printed on them. I wonder if it is for the teen C-ian conference in America. If anyone goes, let me know if you get a black and gray jute bag with Acquire the Fire printed on it! I also have a sneaking suspicion that the jute messenger bags handed out at the Blume 2007 Conference in Kansas City were made by this organization…if anyone still has that bag, will you check the tag and tell me what it says? Thanks.
However, what makes this organization so special, in my opinion, is the emphasis they put on the Good News. They begin each morning with praising the Father, a devotion, and communication with the Father. Many of these women are from other faiths—H.ndu, Musl.m, etc. They expose them to not only the freedom they can have from their line of work, but also the freedom they can have in ÁC. They don't stop at social justice, but continue to reach the heart of the matter—people needing a Savior.
Will you join with me in lifting up this organization? Thank the Father for the people who listened to His voice over a decade ago to start this organization. Thank Him for the many women whose lives have been changed as a result. Ask that as women are freed from prostitution that they would come to know the One who can free their soul. Ask that many, many more women would be freed—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:32, 36
*In an effort to maintain the security of this organization, I have not disclosed their name. However, if you would like to know more about this organization, please email me at eorre@aol.com
