Red Dot, Green Dot

Here there is something on every package of food that isn't on packages of food in America.  There is a dot...either red or green.  For some of the people here, the dots are like lights.  Red dot means "stop!"  Green dot means "go!"  The red dot indicates there is meat, meat products, or eggs in the product.  The green dot indicates the product is fully vegetarian.

Every food product gets a dot--even the ones that are clearly meat.   See the red dot on the chicken.  This chicken also gets a Halal marking--no pork in chicken...fancy that!
